This old roadhouse has been serving fried chicken — deep-fried, if youre fussy about that sort of thing — and stiff cocktails since 1932. Back then, it had a South Seas theme, which explains the joints offbeat name, but the current interior design is less exotic — think basement rec room, 1966. The paneled walls, vinyl-sheathed tables and big-screen TV create a cozy ambience that complements the home-style menu: fried chicken livers, fried shrimp, decent (and cheap) steak dinners and thick sandwiches. No desserts, unless youd like a rum and Coke or a whiskey stinger to cap off your meal — Charles Ferruzza
