The Cigar Box is an eclectic and somewhat seedy lounge, like something out of Vegas. In true Vegas style, there’s a hilariously hideous tapestrylike print behind the bar of a naked woman smoking a cigar. Cocktail waitresses with big hair and bigger cleavage are on hand, offering full service at the many cocktail tables throughout the place. (Each table has flowers and a bottle of wine on it.) The clientele here really spells downtown KC. There are Italian men wearing track suits, office secretary types, and businessmen grabbing a cold one at the bar. And, as the name suggests, there are plenty of cigar for sale for smoking outside.

Restaurant Details

This combination saloon and Italian restaurant, with its walk-in humidor filled with classy stogies, gives off the pungent aroma of tobacco even when no one’s in the joint. That’s part of this unique venue’s charm. It’s a throwback to a time when no one frowned on smoking, drinking and eating a big bowl of fettuccine smothered in a thick Alfredo cream sauce. The waitresses are exceptionally pretty and friendly, and the lady bartenders are, in a word, va-va-voom. It’s kind of a guy hangout, but the Italian-American menu is appealing to either gender. — Charles Ferruzza
