When the Golden Ox opened its doors in 1949, the Kansas City stockyards were still in operation and attracted plenty of cowboys and brawling bucks who wanted a stiff drink and a juicy steak supper. After 60 years, it has outlasted the stockyards, but cowboys (or at least men who look like cowboys) still come to dine on the signature dishes here: grilled Kansas City strips, prime rib, loaded twice-baked potatoes, onion rings, and a heaping bowl of lobster bisque. Another thing that hasnt changed in six decades: Dinners still include a soup or salad and a vegetable. — Charles Ferruzza
