Restaurant Details

Midtown’s locally owned fast-casual joint is the brainchild of chef-caterer Jo Marie Scaglia, who offers stylish sandwiches, salads and one daily pasta special in a clean, well-lighted dining room. Although it’s a moderately priced, order-at-the-counter operation, The Mixx has caught on with the see-and-be-seen crowd — or, as one wag puts it, “snobby customers who wouldn’t be caught dead at Subway.” But no chain sandwich shop serves Scaglia’s culinary creations, which include a grilled beefsteak sandwich with balsamic-grilled onions and blue-cheese aî oli, and tarragon chicken salad on a buttery croissant. The restaurant’s name refers to both the clientele and the opportunity for creative patrons to customize their own salads and sandwiches. Customers who loathe the throwaway utensils in most fast-casual spots will be thrilled to know that The Mixx uses real china and metal flatware. — Charles Ferruzza
