The Runaway Club goes back quite a way. Open close to 30 years now, ownership has passed from mom to daughter, but everything else has pretty much stayed the same. Split into two separate rooms, a lengthy bar and karaoke stage occupies one half and the game room resides in the other. A smoky, drop-ceiling dive, the bar features black leather barstools, mismatched tables, bags of chips for sale and loads of longtime regulars. And it’s probably one of the last places in Kansas City where you can buy cigarettes from the ancient machine and then smoke up indoors.
