Third Friday Hit List

From 6 to 9 tonight, the Urban Culture Project spotlights artists from its Studio Residency Program with three shows and two open studios for Third Friday Art Downtown. Painterly La La, at Paragraph Gallery (23 East 12th Street), includes diverse works fashioned from wood, fabric, foam, glass and found objects. Artists and curators speak at 6 p.m. At the Project Space (21 East 12th Street), see how Pat Alexander and Michael Converse collaborated to create "Separated at Birth," an evolving piece that mingles the artists' work. Jacob Martin's And the Earth Was Born (Jenkins, 1217 Walnut) features over-sized papier-mâché skeletons inspired by Latin American and European influences. Martin will assemble his characters on-site, and they'll "perform" in Jenkins' windows until the show closes on June 21. Meanwhile, the studios at Bonfils (125 East 12th Street) and pARTnership Place (906 Grand, 13th floor) are open to the public. Call 816-221-5115 for more information on all events.— Penny LaRocque
