Todd Barry at Czar Bar

For such a slight, unassuming fellow, the slyly deadpan and bitingly funny Todd Barry has done pretty well for himself professionally: He has performed for Conan O'Brien, Jimmy Kimmel and David Letterman; headlined two Comedy Central Presents specials; and played bongos with Flight of the Conchords. He has recorded three albums, including 2005's Medium Energy, which The Onion named as one of the top comedy albums of the decade. Barry's film appearances span the artistic gamut, from Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler to Louis C.K.'s Pootie Tang. And he has been hailed by no less than Ricky Gervais. Now Barry brings his bona fides and his razor-sharp observational stand-up to Czar Bar (1531 Grand, 816-221-2244) for his first-ever gig as a headliner in Kansas City. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the early, 21-and-older show, which starts at 7:15 p.m. Tickets cost $12; order them online at brownpapertickets .com/event/135755.— Brent Shepherd
