Truth & Salvage Co.

It's not hard to see what prompted the Black Crowes' Chris Robinson to sign California's Truth & Salvage Co. to his new Silver Arrow imprint. With four songwriters in the quintet, Truth & Salvage Co. is chock-full of sunny roots balladry powered by bright, singsong melodies. The band's self-titled 2009 debut mines a sound that harkens back to the Eagles; Crosby, Stills and Nash; and the Band. T&S Co. formed from the remnants of a couple of late-'90s Americana acts (Scrappy Hamilton, Old Pike) whose members moved to California in the mid-aughts. The music's ambling, easygoing vibe is enhanced by lighthearted lyrics over ringing twang, like on the puckish "Welcome to L.A.": Singing with angels/Laying out dancing with the devil/Whatever you want to find, you'll find/We're all looking for something.
