The city's newest piece of public art juts out of a wall on the side of the Folly Theater at 12th Street and Central. Titled "Staying the Course," it's 14 erect feet of banana, which has a slightly upward bent.
Made from papier-mâché by Reading Reptile owner Pete Cowdin, the piece is part of the city's Avenue of the Arts exhibit.
Folly executive director Doug Tatum says he's expecting those who complained about last year's art on the Folly Theater - a clothesline full of oversized undies -- certainly won't be happy with what's up now. And Tatum declined to lodge an opinion on the "banana," except to say: "I think the artwork can speak for itself."
When asked about it, Cowdin said: "Is it still up?"
