Useless Knowledge

For younger generations often considered ignorant about history and current events, VH1’s World Series of Pop Culture was a self-affirming experience. Shout every member of Flock of Seagulls from the sofa? Totally. Point out Iraq on a map? Not so much. Now, Generations X and Y are hungry to demonstrate their trivia prowess in bars across the country. The Granada (1020 Massachusetts in Lawrence) mimics the “World Series” tournament format of three-person teams and six-question rounds with its Pop Culture Scramble. Trivia geeks should arrive early to take the written test that determines participants. Added bonus: Contestants from World Series finalists Wocka Wocka of Kansas City and quarterfinalists Westerburg High of Lawrence will be on hand. No word yet on prizes for the winners, but glory alone would suffice. The all-ages event starts today at 3 p.m. and costs $5. For more information, call 785-842-1390. Granada
