Nestled in the hilly countryside just 3 miles east of Weston, Vaughn Orchard and Country Store has been a family institution for over 70 years. Enjoy fresh apple cider pressed in a mill, apple butter cooked in a kettle over an open fire, and barbeque prepared on site. The country store features a whole host of apple products, as well as country-cured hams, sorghum, honey, Indian corn, gourds, gifts and the apple sorting operation. Visitors can ride the Apple Express to pick their own apples or walk through the pumpkin patch to select their own pumpkins. One visit and it becomes a family tradition. Call about orchard tours and available hayrides.

We've taken our four children to Vaughn's every fall to pick apples for 20 years. Some years (especially after late-summer hail storms) customers cannot pick apples themselves, but that only takes a little bit of the fun away. Young kids under 10 will love the not-scary "haunted barn" and their teenage sibs will even bust out a smile while taking them through. The owners make you feel very welcome. Be warned: Hot fresh apple fritters with a cup of coffee (or hot cider) on a cool fall morning are 100% addictive.

Vaughn's has the best apple cider you'll find in the KC metro area. It's the good stuff--unpasteurized and fresh from the press, just like our family used to make back home.

Vaughn's is a great place to take your family. My kids love the "not too scary" haunted barn.
