Voodoo Organist

Saturday, May 29, at The Brick.

You know it's time for the antichrist's all-skate whenever one-man cabaret act Voodoo Organist lugs in his synths, theremin and dementia and gets to rocking you Vincent Price-on-Thriller-style. Instead of settling for some kind of hoodoo kitsch, Voodoo Organist achieves a rarified seediness with crushed velvet and complicated drinks and songs about sex-bombs and strung-out friends, all delivered with the odd mambo beat or Tom Waits bellow. Other times it's Screamin' Jay Hawkins scatting over The Day the Earth Stood Still. Or a really antsy homeless guy bullhorning his theories from the back of a Wurlitzer crashing down a staircase. Or something. But rest assured, whatever it is, it'll be moody, spooky and odd.
