Warren Solo

The work by Kansas City photographer Jaimie Warren is deliberate but not overly calculated, purposeful but not single-minded, meaningful without the long face. In other words, it's serious but not, you know, serious. When asked what's in her first solo museum exhibition, opening this weekend, Warren responds in characteristic fashion. "Tell me what you wanna know, girl!" she demands. "I don't want to sound like a douche if I don't have to." So expect her trademark brand of semi-staged, semi-real life: colorful and hilarious images of food, plants, nature, animals, her friends and herself. You Are So Beautiful in the Face opens from 6 to 9 tonight at Kemper at the Crossroads (33 West 19th Street, 816-753-5784). The show is booked through October 3; see dontyoufeelbetter.com for more information.
Fri., June 5, 6-9 p.m., 2009
