The conflict in Afghanistan, which began 10 years ago, is the longest war in U.S. history. An exhibition at the Kansas City Central Library (14 West 10th Street, 816-701-3400) seeks to reveal the everyday hopes and fears of the civilians who have suffered through a war that remains invisible to much of the American public. Called
Windows and Mirrors: Reflections on the War in Afghanistan, the 900-square-foot installation is composed of 45 large paintings and is on display through the end of the year. The American Friends Service Committee, a Quaker organization, gathered artists from Afghanistan and the United States to memorialize those who died and to show the perspective of the war's innocent bystanders. The art is unveiled today, and the reception for the exhibition begins tomorrow at the Central Library at 2 p.m. For more information, see
