Kansas International Film Festival does a lot more to earn the "international" in its name than does our local airport. The festival's 10th anniversary outing serves up a smorgasbord of tasty cinema, including glossy foreign dramas, a strong roster of documentaries, SXSW-type American indies, Kansas-related stories, animated shorts, big draws such as Darren Aronofsky's
Black Swan (starring Natalie Portman). Also, the festival opener is Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy finale,
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest. The seven-day festival officially kicks off Friday, but a free screening of
Millennium, a documentary on Larsson's life, shows at 7:45 tonight. All films are at the Glenwood Arts (9575 Metcalf in Overland Park). Passes cost $60; individual tickets also may be purchased online from Glenwood Arts. See
