Although Walgreen's deserves some credit for investing in the central city, its puzzling strategy of constantly positioning itself within five blocks of its competitors, Osco and Eckerd, ultimately serves little purpose for the consumer. At best, the new Walgreen's at 39th and Broadway might save those in its immediate vicinity a few cents and a couple minutes of transit time, but a Target-type store would be of infinitely more value to the community. --AM
