Y.J.'s doesn't serve alcohol, but the constant bustle of business makes it easy to mistake this Crossroads joint for a drinking hot spot. This fantastic hybrid is part coffehouse, part home-cookin' cafe, and 100 percent social den -- a regular hangout for artists, musicians and downtown business types. The joint has enough fliers, eclectic artwork and knickknacks laying around to entertain the eye through a leisurely lunch, and live acoustic acts or DJs play (or not -- it's completely random) on the weekends. Y.J.'s also has one of the best sidewalk patios in town. Come spring, every rickety table and outside is occupied by cigarette-rolling regulars discussing the next 18th Street block party or fashion show.
