Accurso’s 4980 Main, 816-753-0810. Restaurateur Joe Accurso packed up and moved his family photos, his recipes (including his father’s instructions for excellent house-made sausage) and 23 years of memories from a now-razed building at 50th Street and Main and moved a block north. The new, sleek, modern space - a noisy glass-paned box with concrete floors - may lack the cluttered, eccentric charm of the old location, but the food is actually better, thanks to a more expansive kitchen. While not everyone is mad for Accurso’s slightly sweet tomato marinara, most Midwesterners admire Joe’s generosity: Dinners still include salads and garlic toast, and the only entrées that cost more than 20 bucks are the steaks and the seafood linguini. And, yes, Joe’s mother still makes the cheesecake. - Charles Ferruzza
