Habanero's

1008 S.E. Blue Pkwy.
Lee's Summit, MO 64063
816-554-1008
Website
If you’ve driven east on Highway 50, you’ve passed the eye-catching building that houses this spotless Mexican restaurant: There’s an actual yellow airplane, a Piper Tomahawk, perched on the roof. Habanero’s calls itself “the home of the flying pepper,” but none of its offerings are too peppery or spicy. What flies out of the kitchen is fresh and tasty, including the airy fried tortilla chips and the light and soft tacos stuffed with seasoned grilled fish, cabbage and pico de gallo. The plate of hearty pork tamales is blanketed with a punchy, but not fiery, chili sauce. There are hamburgers and salads, too, as well as a memorable black bean soup. - Charles Ferruzza
