Sushi chef David Loo’s signature item is the Hot Temptation Roll (tempura shrimp and rice in thinly sliced mango strips, bedecked with tiny red tobiko eggs), and the thing lives up to its sexy name. In addition to Loo’s excellent nigiri and maki-sushi rolls, the menu includes a robust miso soup, exquisite little dumplings, a Mandarin-style composition of aged ashi tofu cubes, vegetables and seafood in feather-light tempura batter, and Kaiyo’s version of a Bento box (called “dinner tray sets” here). These tempting trays are loaded with little dishes containing sushi, salad, grilled meats and a few tempura treats. The sushi here isn’t cheap, but it’s worth going a little overboard. - Charles Ferruzza
