Nara

1617 Main
Kansas City, MO 64108

Website
This eccentric, entertaining "neo-Japanese Robata Grill" offers more than sushi and items cooked on a Japanese-style hardwood-burning grill — although those dishes are popular here. So are the fabulous Szechuan sirloin chili (a refreshing spin on the diner classic), flat-iron steaks, Kobe-beef burgers, stir-fried sirloin and grilled Berkshire pork tenderloin, among other choices that aren’t necessarily of Asian origin. This restaurant's owner, the iconoclastic Casey Adams, loves all things Japanese, and Nara is his attempt at bringing a little Tokyo cool to downtown Kansas City. The place is certainly stylish, and there's almost always an air of festivity, which is just the right climate for a post-work cocktail — a saketini, perhaps? — and a plate of gyoza dumplings and typhoon shrimp. - Charles Ferruzza

what else could you possibly need? not to mention a nice looking crowd! you have fashion, beauty, great food, ambiance, atmosphere, and even a live DJ performing! Reminds me a lot of all the places in l.a.! Love it! Defiantly check out this spot when you're in downtown KC! It's modern and they have an assortment of Saki's! woooo hooooo!!!! you can even rent out a night there for your next big event! uh oh! downtown http://www.likeme.net/places/nara-restaurant-kansas-city#view! get the binoculars out! get your 80's on at lunch time! check out their website for more details! see you there next time I'm in town! xoxo

The best sushi anywhere on the planet. The fish is always fresh. Great atmosphere. Sick service - the owner's always walking around saying "hey". Nice bar (the drinks are always strong). It's really lounge-y, they have DJs spinning on occasion - you can make a night out of it. It's hip and trendy, but it's not like they're trying too hard. My favorite spot to eat and chill downtown Kansas City.
