The Willis family, founders of the beloved Peachtree Buffet on Eastwood Trafficway and the original Peachtree Restaurant at 18th Street and Paseo (which moves to downtown’s Power & Light District in the summer of 2008), gambled that fast-growing Lee’s Summit was ready for a family-owned, full-service restaurant serving first-rate soul food. This comfortable, attractive restaurant in Lee’s Summit’s busiest shopping center delivers familiar baskets of yeasty rolls and sweet-potato muffins ahead of Peachtree’s famous signature dishes: Southern-fried chicken, barbecued pork chops, salmon croquettes, braised short ribs and nine superb side dishes. There are also steaks, burgers and a Cajun chicken-and-sausage pasta. The food isn’t light, but save room for a finale of peach cobbler, fudgy chocolate cake or the best bread pudding in town. - Charles Ferruzza
