Back in the early 1980s, this classic Chinese-American restaurant was one of the snazziest Asian spots in the city. The dining room is a throwback to an era of gilded dragons, and the menu is a thickly bound, 14-page book. Nearly three of those pages are devoted to wine and cocktails — hypnotic concoctions such as the Princess Garden Grog (Strong but very passionate, the menu notes) or the Sharks Tooth (with a bite so sharp you wont feel a thing). The fare itself could use a little more bite, but mixed with old favorites such as pineapple chicken, Mandarin noodles and 11 versions of the meat-and-seafood combination called Triple Delight are a few dishes you wont find at trendier local Chinese venues (crunch chicken, spicy crunchy beef). And just as in the old days, Princess Garden still offers modestly priced family dinners for budget-conscious diners or flashy big shots who travel with hungry entourages - Charles Ferruzza
I went to Princess Gardens for the 1st time tonight. I went with the understanding that it was a simple, old-fashioned Chinese place. Which, it was. But I found the food somewhat bland, fresh... but bland. The service was just ok, it started very slow (10 minutes to order, 15 until we got any drinks), and sped up a bit towards the end. The place was pretty dead, so I didn't understand the wait for service. I ordered a glass of KD Chard, which was $9! I mean, a whole bottle at Costco is that much. I must also mention the music, creepy. Atmosphere, creepy. I felt like I was in a Tarantino movie and something weird was about to happen. Luckily, it didn't. I would not say it was a bad experience, but I have no desire to go again. Instead, I would recommend Blue Koi or Ghengis Kahn on 39th St. It's not near Princess Garden, but well worth the trip.

Overall:
My husband and i love this place. we're going tonight. My Mom used to take me here for lunch when I was little in the 80's. Fried rice is amazing. so are the egg rolls and dumplings. Everything is yummy. The people are so friendly and know us when we come it. Enjoy this jewel of kc
