Every genre of music (with the possible exception of polka) plays at this recent and successful addition to KC’s club scene. Local, national and international rock acts; dance-inspiring DJs; and rhyme-spitting MCs are equally likely draws. Various themes and weekly events also are popular at the RB – costume parties, benefit and variety shows, unofficial afterparties, Thursday-night trivia, live-music dinner shows. The food and décor are impressive. Given the name, there are the expected countless hard-to-find LPs and big-name fliers adorning the walls – even the menus are made from record sleeves. The owners of the Record Bar had a vision and are sticking to it with great success – not surprising, considering they hail from two of the most prolific and well-known bands to come out of KC: Season to Risk (Steve Tulipana) and Shiner (Shawn Sherrill).
