At T.J.’s, the crowd ranges from grizzly tattooed truck drivers in tank tops to well-heeled businessmen in Brooks Brothers suits. Whether they’re sitting in cozy booths or stools at the counter, it’s not more than a few minutes before they get an inexpensive breakfast (biscuits and gravy, pork chops, buttermilk pancakes) or a massive lunch platter. Daily specials are written on a wipe-off board; one day’s list included a “super-sized” chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes or roast pork loin with neon-red candied apples.
