This midtown lounge is a hot spot for service industry lifers, high rollers and pool sharks. The narrow bar divides the room in two. To the right is a long, plush booth surrounded by small, round tables. In the other room, B-boys play pool and high-five between shots of Crown. You’d expect the jukebox to be filled with predictable Top 40 fare, but even the most discerning of rockists would be impressed with the Lava’s credible selection of the Pixies, Television and early B-52s. One of the cushier dives on this stretch of Broadway, the Lava Room hops late night on the weekends, and the place is known to get a little rowdy sometimes.
