Here's something you probably didn't see this weekend: the Muscle Mayhem Championships at the Folly Theater.
You probably didn't see it because few people probably knew about it. Here at the Pitch, we didn't hear about it until we came across this video. The only mention in the Star was on Thursday, with a 14-word entry in the weekend calendar. A Google search of "Muscle Mayhem Championships" reveals little more than a couple of entries in bodybuilding chat rooms. The Folly's Web site probably has the most information on the event, describing it as a chance to see "fantastic competitors go head to head in this display of muscular and athletic supremacy."
According to a posting on this site, winners of the event "get all paid expenses to the Jr Nationals" for the NPC, which, we assume, does not mean this or this, but is actually the National Physique Committee.
So, what gives? Why did a major event in the bodybuilding world come and go with little fanfare? -- Eric Barton
