Heads up: Like a man with three testicles, and also like a woman with three testicles, June is swingin’ low with more Fridays and Saturdays than the average month. Dude, look at your June calendar right now: regular number of weekdays, 25 percent more fun days. Sure, today is Third Friday and not Fifth Friday. But the point is, spend money like a three-testicled madman or madwoman, because there’s an extra paycheck this month.

Hai Capoeira!

Every Third Friday at Em Chamas Brazilian Grill (6101 Northwest 63rd Terrace, 816-505-7100), Grupo Ax Capoeira performs on the patio. Capoeira is a traditional Brazilian martial art that combines dance and fighting, not dissimilar to Slovenian polka fighting. In capoeira, the dancers form a circle and take turns playing instruments and sparring. In Slovenian polka fighting, participants get drunk, dance to the "Mr. Spaceman Polka" and take swings at each other.

Tour for Still Yet Another Cure

Sunday’s Tour for the Cure is a bike ride that benefits the American “Die-a-beetus” Association. Hat tip to Mr. Wilford Brimley for bringing this “nuclear-nookyalur” dialectical debate to the fore of American vernacular. Sure, you can make fun of the man, but really, what’s the alternative? Who says “die-a-bee-tease?” I’ll tell you who: that kid in high school who kept his inhaler in his fanny pack and quoted Monty Python and the Holy Grail for four straight years and stayed in the shallow end because he had “tubes in his ears.” Count me among those who sound like Wilford Brimley when speaking about diabetes, hot Quaker Oats, Braniff Airlines and the preservative benefits of submerging alien cocoons in the swimming pool.

At any rate, the starting line is the parking lot across from River Market Cyclery, 315 East Third Street, and there are two routes – a 35-mile course and, for those of you with mighty quadriceps, a 70-mile course. Click here for more details. -- Chris Packham
