Whats better is that we're wasting the time to respond to something we could've easily turned the page on, instead of doing something proactive to correct the "real news" and issues that plagues Kansas City.
Linda -
The fact that you and a couple other people are uncomfortable with the Mayor's wife is not a "controversy", and certainly not a "major controversy". Where's the story? What's the relevance? For anyone to "ignore" a "major controversy", it has to exist, and this one doesn't. Surely you don't want the Pitch to take a stand against political spouses being involved in politics, do you? Surely you don't want the Pitch to be pointlessly flogging the Semler dead horse, do you - after they covered the story adequately already?
I understand that a certain vocal minority has a frothing hatred of our mayor, and that extends to his spouse, too. But it's downright silly to call the Pitch or CJ a cheerleader. I'm certain that they stand ready to criticize, when there's something to criticize.
CJ, I used to appreciate it when you took The Star to task, but no more. You are writing about fluff when there are serious problems at City Hall, just like The Star.
There is very little by the way of difference in the way The Star and The Pitch cover Mayor Funkhouser and I am really disappointed about that. You have ignored controversy rather than investigated and reported on it, and at times you columnists seem to be gunning for administration critics in a particularly mean manner.
The Pitch has ignored the entire controversy over the Gloria Squitiro, who is undermining reasonable efforts to reform city government. A reader cannot ignore the fact that you have two former employees working in the Mayor's Office, and now The Pitch ignores a major political controversy involving that office. I also think your columnist Mr. Martin seems to attack, bully, or even belittle, who stand up to the Mayor's Office in areas like the appointment of a Ms. Semler to a public board who belongs to a vigilante group (The Minutemen) and the Anti-Woman, Anti-Education, Anti-Gay and Anti-Immigration Eagle Forum. If Mayor Barnes had done the same thing, I would have expected you to publish a feature story on the wrongness of Semler's views. The Pitch punted.
It appears to a long-time reader that your publication is fully co-opted for whatever reason.
I never thought I would say this CJ but you have become a cheerleader.
