Spoiler Alert: Harry Lives

What had it been, a month or more that The Kansas City Star had Harry Potter either on the front page or the top of the FYI section? Finally, Potter's big release came and went, and Star readers could hope they could find some other event to write about, like, say, something local.

Well, Harry's back today, on the top of the FYI and splashed on the section's back page. Why, you ask? That's easy.

I'm betting Harry's midnight release was the first time FYI-types stayed up past midnight since New Year's Eve 1989 ("Stay awake, y'all, it's the end of the '80s!").

Or maybe it's that little Clint and Amber kept bugging their FYI parents about it for a month, demanding to hear Bryan Busby read from the book at midnight at the Plaza library, which, honestly, isn't that far from Olathe.

But most likely, it's simply that every mass media-fueled event (Harry Potter), every release of a new gadget (iPhone), every big blockbuster (Transformers), gets splashed from the front page to the FYI for weeks.

In the interest of full disclosure, I'm 200 pages in myself. It's a good thing the Star let me know the book was coming. Now I can find out who kills Harry. -- Eric Barton

99% of the time we know whether hero is going to live or die. It's not whether he lives or dies that makes the drama. It's how you get there that makes the drama.

Why would you spoil it for the rest of us who have not had a chance to read the book or the last book yet. I love Harry Potter but now that I know what is coming what is the point in reading the book? Or even watching the movie now..
