Hall: “I maintain my innocence. Doesn’t that sound like lawyerese? There’s just a lot of stuff that doesn’t seem to make sense to me about this case, but … [Hall trails off and sighs].
Pitch: “Did you know [Kelsey Smith] at all?”
Hall: “No. I didn’t. I just, I mean, I saw her in the store.”
Pitch: “So you were there.”
Hall: “Yeah, I was there. I mean, that’s not a denied fact. I turned myself in because I was there.”
Pitch: “I didn’t realize you turned yourself in.”
Hall: “Yeah, see, they don’t really let that out on the news.”
[Recording breaks in: “This call is subject to monitoring and recording.”]
Hall: “Technically, I mean, I was arrested, technically.”
Pitch: “But you made yourself available to be arrested?”
Hall: “No, it was, ah, I had, when I found out that they wanted to speak to me, I went and I sought legal counsel, and me and legal counsel had sat down and we had called the detectives, and we had said that, ‘Hey, look, he wants to come in and he wants to talk to you,’ but because of my lawyer’s schedule I couldn’t do it right away. We had scheduled a time at, like, 1:30 that day to go and meet with them, like, right after he got done with his court appearance. We were all going to go down to the police station and meet with them. Around 1 o’clock, they picked me up. I went back to my house to get my medication. So I’d already planned to come in. I was going to take my insulin and head down to the police station.”
Pitch: “You were going to take your what?”
Hall: “I’m a diabetic. I was going to take my medication and then go down to the police station. And then they picked me up.”
Pitch: “Gotcha.”
Hall: “So it’s actually on record that I’d made plans to turn myself in. I mean, I don’t know, I’d like to think that people who do these kinds of things don’t turn themselves in, and don’t, all sorts of other … [trails off].
Pitch: “It shows some good will toward helping the investigation. Do you regret that?”
Hall: “Do I regret turning myself in? I’m gonna say no comment on that one. [Laughs.] Obviously I’m sitting in this jail and it’s not pleasant and everyone thinks I’m some kind of a monster now, so, yeah, in that respect I do, but if I had to do it again, knowing what’s happening here now, I would still do the same thing.”
Pitch: “What were you doing at Target?”
Hall: “Idly just bumbling around. Like, really nothing, killing time. I was lookin for an anniversary present, er, not an anniversary present, but a graduation present for my wife. I don’t know, I shop kind of funny, I just let stuff kinda bounce out at me. I don’t think I even stopped and looked at almost anything. I think I looked at a picture frame, that was about it. Yeah, apparently I looked at this girl and that was enough.”
Pitch: “You drive a truck. That was the other thing, right?”
Hall: “And that was my truck, I left it there. There’s some coincidences. I left my truck at Target. The news got that part right.”
Pitch: “What did they get wrong?”
Hall: “A lot. A lot. You’ve probably – ”
[“This call is subject to monitoring and recording.”]
“-- to be honest with you.”
Pitch: “I didn’t catch that.”
Hall: “You’ve probably gotten more news coverage on this than I have. I get it from the people who I care about, the people who are there to support me. They come back and they say, ‘They’re saying all this stuff about you and it’s not true,’ you know? It’s all like media hype, bringing up my past and my childhood and stuff like that. Yeah, I’m actually really displeased because they have cut me off from all support. They’ve confined me in pretty much solitude. It’s not people in here. I’m not too worried about that. But my friends, my family, I can’t talk to anyone -- they’re all on my witness list. I can’t have contact with witnesses. There are over 1,200 people on my witness list. Some of them are on there once, twice, three times. My wife is the one exception. She’s on there, but the judge made an exception on that.”

Plead guilty to all counts. The DNA doesn't lie. One of the DNA tests had a statistic of 1 in 20 billion. Pretty obvious that it was Hall. Actually, it was pretty obvious the entire time. He just happened to drive his truck home RIGHT after Kelsey's car gets dropped off hours later? Right..

Thank you, I already have. I spent many hours being interviewed. LOL I will be called to testify in court if they decide they need me to. I accidently contacted the victim's father and he got the contacts for me. (Imagine my mortification!)

The police told me that there is only one person that believes that this man is innocent - his wife. So I guess everyone knows who the "Anonymous" is. I really feel for you, girl. I can not imagine how hard this must be for you and your family. Absolutely best wishes and hopes go out to you.

They won't and can't make you testify against your will, but if you have information about this man that needs to come forward, please bring it forward. Yikes. Hall maybe innocent, or maybe Jack is. I think, you will find, Anonymous, that why the body may be one, the mind is not. Split personality disorder. Too bad one can't be killed without the other. There is both a guilty and an innocent person on trial here. It makes no difference, they share the same DNA.

I am Edwin Hall's ex-girlfriend. He actually dunmped me for his current wife, but not important. I am in total shock. I don't know what to do. I am in the middle of a divorce myself right now. I could really use some advice. I haven't seen him or kept in touch with him much, but there are...things...about him that maybe a jury should know or even just a prosecuting attorney. I don't really want to testify. I don't want him knowing I even know where he is! What should I do? If I did want to talk to someone, who?
I also read somewhere that a person who was working near that case, says there is overwhelming evidence also. She also said "you wouldn't be able to sleep at night if you saw the pictures" She mentioned he had a bite mark and scratches also.
Does anyone else on here think that Hall has anything to do with missing Kara Kopetsky? I have a feeling that he does (my opinion). The sketches of the person that was seen around Kara looks just like Hall, only the artist drew him thinner. The features are all the same. The only reason they found Kelsey so fast was because of surveillance. (thank God). My opinion also is that this is definately not the first time he has done this. He was very quick at it.
To the family of Kelsey Smith: Our hearts are with you. My son went to school with Kelsey and was shocked and saddened by the whole incident.
I am not an attorney, but working in the legal field, I can tell you that there IS overwhelming evidence against Hall. However, the prosecution and the defense are legally bound to do everything they can to plead their case. I keep my opinion on it to myself, and I think some little girl who has no idea what she's talking about should back up her silly comments with real reasons as to why she thinks he's innocent. Others have posted their opinions on his guilt, yet she would rather use cursing and unrelated information in her own defense. If you have something of value to say, say it. Otherwise, don't waste space with your rantings. It is not appreciated by anyone here, in my opinion, and serves no purpose. By the way, his trial is set for September 16, 2008 on five of the seven charges. The other two charges do not have a court date set as of today. I caught a peek at the news and saw a story on Hall's court date being changed, does any one know if it was changed to an earlier date or if it was moved back to a later date?
I am Kelsey's aunt and it makes me sick that some of you people are defending this horrible person that killed my baby niece. What is wrong with you people. Exactly that would be all around bad if they did get those charges dropped. I watch a lot of court TV and A&E, I have seen in just about every case the perpetrator always ends up facing charges in the same county that the victim was from. Especially cause the initial crime took place here (the kidnapping). Hall's lawyers are going to pull every rabbit out of their hats to try and help him that's their jobs but I really do doubt they will succeed. I think this guy is just an all around trouble maker and a menace to society and should be OFF THE STREETS OUR FAMILIES ARE ON!
If you read in the KansasCity paper it says "Kelsey Smith was raped, sodomized, and killed in Missouri and those charges should not be prosecuted in Johnson County" It says if that is the case he (meaning psycho Hall) should only be charged for kidnapping in Johnson County. That is really freaky, and that is the 2nd time the Lawyer has said a wierd thing. The first time he said something in the line of there was overwhelming evidence on his client, so he wanted more time to research the case.

R, Yes, you are right on what your saying, but the truth is Defense Lawyers have to help you, but do they really believe this guy is innocent if they have all the dna in front of them. I think some Lawyers are all out for themselves and publicity and it wouldn't look too good if they don't pull all the strings. You are correct though. I don't know about the double jeopardy thing because I have seen people in court the first time walk then they have another trial and get locked up.

Karen: wouldn't mistrial be more of a positive to the defense in that a retrial may be barred and the defendent would be protected by double jeopardy? From what I can tell, if the defendent consented to the mistrial, he would be retried. That wouldn't benefit him.
I read the defense brought up this motion because the grand jury convened on a completely different matter but also brought up Edwin Hall based on petitioner's request.
Kasey, Got one for you. Your buddy is busted for another girl. You know why they can press charges now? Because they have evidence now from Kelseys case. So much they can do something about it. NOW WHAT? I betcha there are a hell of alot more too!
R, From what I have learned is, the defense will argue just about everything so at the end of the trial Hall can't pull the old "his lawyers were uncompetent" line, and he didnt get a fair trial. That would result in a mistrial. It's their tactics and it wouldn't be good if they didnt argue it. If that makes sense.

So... his lawyers are trying to throw out the grand jury indictment because of a paperwork error? Hopefully he goes down with the evidence... and doesn't get off on technicalities. Scary.
