The Truth About Larry Johnson's Rap

TV news and sports-talk radio stations howled yesterday at the latest Larry Johnson controversy: a free-style rap in which he glorifies guns, says the n-word about 14 times and disses Priest Holmes and Carl Peterson.

Johnson has denied making this rap, above, which appeared on the MySpace page of Kansas City group SBL Mob. But James Tinberg, owner of Basement Entertainment, confirmed Friday morning that the man saying “Fuck Carl Peterson” is definitely Johnson, except Johnson didn’t exactly say the phrase “fuck Carl Peterson.”

Tinberg tells the Pitch that he recorded the Chiefs running back free-styling at a going-away party for former Chief and Kansas State Wildcat Joe Hall. He says Johnson rolled up to Hall’s party in a Bentley two weekends before ending his holdout and signing a $43 million deal with the Chiefs, then free-styled for 10 minutes.

“Everybody’s rapping, and L.J. wants to get on the mic,” Tinberg recalled. “He gets on the mic and raps for a while. He gets off and everybody’s chopping around with the song … switching around what he says and stuff, and he didn’t care. He didn’t think it was a big deal, either.”

Tinberg says a bunch of DJs and engineers at the party edited Johnson’s free-style using an Internet program called Cool Edit Pro. But Tinberg says Johnson bounced out of the party 20 minutes later, so he didn’t hear the edited versions of the song.

Before Johnson left the party though, Tinberg says Johnson was told the free-style was going to be uploaded to YouTube and MySpace.

As far as Johnson denying making the rap, Tinberg says Johnson probably doesn’t remember doing the free-style. “I don’t think he even remembered what he said,” Tinberg says. “He’s probably confused why this guy who sounds just like him – it was him, though – is saying things that he never actually said.

“After his words got twisted around, he might have thought it wasn’t him and that it was someone impersonating him,” Tinberg adds. “His words just got misconstrued because there was a bunch of music DJs over there messing with it. There were points when we were making the song that we had him say fuck anything. It was saying it over again. Like, you could make him say 'fuck, fuck, fuck you.'”

Tinberg says he’s tried to contact Johnson via MySpace but hasn’t heard from him. -- Justin Kendall

Thanks for the knowledge on proxies. I have been researching proxies for some time now and cannot determine which proxy is finest for me to use. I included a hyperlink in my reference which gives an IP address to be entered in to surf anonymously. I cannot figure out if this is what I must unblock websites.

Finally, someone that is speaking something that makes sense. Basically he has been distracted all season, which sucks. Its a moot point either way, Peterson took the high road and didnt make it an issue, and I think LJ realises that his meal ticket comes from the very man he dissed. In the long ron, this too shall pass, LJ will struggle this year, but next year he will be back and doing just fine. I do think it would be humorous if Priest came in and took his old job back though.

I holla'd at ya!

First of all, I think I am going to have to say that BigBoppa is fucking awesome and made me laugh for several minutes straight. Next, I would have to agree with the dude up there that said hip hop is a different style too though. People don't mean the shit they say when they freestyle most of the time. Think about it, grown men saying the meanest shit they can think of to each other in a crowd of others? Come on now, that is just asking for a huge all out brawl to happen when one guys boys backs em up and vice versa after the first punch is thrown. Men have testosterone. Case and point. It sounds a hell of a lot like LJ, but if he didn't do it...it doesn't matter because they have a business agreement. He probably only denied it because he didn't want to make a scene out of it and threaten his career over some dumb shit he was just rapping about thus not actually meaning. He rapped about it during his hold out, his hold out being the big thing going on at the time in his life so thus in point being the focus of his rap along with drugs and guns and nice cars and the n word? Well that is a pretty popular topic with black people when they rap, so you can't really expect that each and every black person that raps about that actually means they do it would surely be a topic of the news. I think I've justified both sides to much satisfaction. Holla back at ya boy

Doesnt matter.. Policy is Policy. He signed an agreement. He is getting paid because he can run.. not run his mouth. He needs to wake up and understand this. I say the league should fine his ass.. .minimal.

But they wont.

Ohh well, this whole string of comments is useless anyway.

My IQ has actually dropped from dealing with several of you... Case in point... "LJ Is getting PAID" .. Um.. Duh.. yeah he is getting Paid.. i get Paid.. you get paid.. right? Go to work and bad mouth your boss and see how long they keep you on board.

Think about it...

Stop being a Knave and think about what you are saying.

responses like this are expected. Go back to your cave you fukkin monkey. LJ did it, he cant deny it. The league should follow suite, the dumb ass is Peterson's monkey any way. So what if he is getting paid.. he still has to get his scratch from "da man". People should learn respect for one another. Yet for some reason i am not worried about it gyrnetmye, statics say that you will either be in jail or dead more likely then not, so i am not worried if you choose to cuss at me, or act a fool toward me.

Go woller in your own self pity and the feces that you call your life.

LJ is an idiot and so are you.

It doesnt matter if it something he thinks he can do because he is well paid. He signed an agreement.. a binding contract with the league saying he wouldnt do it. So even if he "lets it out" then he is breaking the league conduct rule and should be made to pay.. ohh and that is also a breach of the HUGE contract he signed with Peterson.

again... Take the Dough.. kill the flow.

Period.

Hey guess what it was LJ and I don't know the whole story of why Tinberg backed down
but yep that was Johnson dissin King Carl
how hard is it to believe that a football player who is paid a fortune might party and swear and dis his boss when he lets it down??? and why would he deny it later
duh he wants to keep his high paying job!!

HipHop is not whats happening. Kids look up to LJ, it doesnt matter if he asked them to or not. He is in the lime light. He owes it to the league and his team. Football isnt a right of passage. He needs to loose some money from this even if he didnt mean to. He talked smack about his employer, his teammate and he spoke of drugs and guns. He signed an agreement with the league to not do these things and he should now be made to pay.

Period. They did it to Tank, they did it to the guy from the titans.. they should do it to LJ too. Take the dough.. kill the flow.. besides, KC wouldnt be hurt that bad anyway, he aint done Sh** all year but hold out and cause drama.

Your the friggin Lame... Go smoke some more indo and talk about how the world is so bad to "brothaz" with your people and leave the thinking to the people that actually have the capacity to do so... Culture or noot there are rules.. you KNAVE...

LJ dosen't love K.C., he loves money, and it went to his head. Do you really think he gives two shits about Kansas city? This rap highlights everything he is about and its too bad that all this talk hasnt helped a damn bit on the field yet this year.

Here's what the website now says:

"The L.J. Track that has been posted and reported through the news radio and tv is in fact a fake. We used this to gain publicity for SBL & Basement Entertainment, and the CD to be put out in Dec.

We want to apologize, first and foremost to L.J. & Joe Hall, but also to the Chiefs Football Team, for any problems or harm that may have been caused by our actions. "

Just thought you should know.
