It took a barrage of e-mails, endless news stories and constant criticism of a city government that appeared to ignore its people. But the KCMO parks board today reconsidered its ban of dog parks in residential areas.
Deb Hipp, the Waldo resident who’s been in charge of the effort to get an off-leash area in Sunnyside Park, said she thinks the vocal proponents of the park likely helped convince the board to reconsider. “They knew we weren’t going to go away,” Hipp says. “They knew they were going to be plagued by us forever.”
It’s unclear what happens next. The board promised to provide a public hearing for the Sunnyside dog park proposal. But it also discussed forming a task force to discuss rules regarding where dog parks should go. And when you’re talking creating a new task force, who knows how long it’ll take from here to make a final decision. -- Eric Barton

FYI, name calling and insults are not an effective form of argument. Do you have any facts or logical arguments to back up the one statement you make that's not a personal attack? (That a dog park in Sunnyside is "not reasonable.")
Oh, you don't? I didn't think so. Because the fact is, that if enough people want a dog park at a neighborhood park in Waldo, then a neighborhood park in Waldo is a perfectly reasonable place to put a dog park.
Other cities have successful dog parks in neighborhood parks that are much smaller than Sunnyside. Sunnyside sits empty much of the time. The city has found enough room to place three baseball diamonds there, even though they sit empty 90 percent of the time (only used on weekends and only during the summer) and can't be used for other uses while they're sitting empty. The city also has found enough room to place a very expensive sprayground in Sunnyside, even though that also sits empty much of the time and can only be used in summer, and cannot be used for other uses when not in use.
As for your complaints about "activist types," I guess it's now a crime to work for something that will benefit one's neighborhood. You'd probably like it better if we all sat on our butts watching TV all day instead of working towards a goal. Well, good then. You do that.

Nothing is more annoying than screechy activist types...screw'em...let'em bitch...A dog park there is not reasonable.Like the nutjobs on the street corner that talk to themselves...let'em babble on and enjoy the show.Contrary to what the Liberal Princess Hipp says....they will eventually go away.If more people drive to the park instead of walking their dogs...wont that leave a bigger "carbon footprint"?
