There's power in a well-known acronym, especially a slightly racy, endearingly harmless one representing grown-up girl time. Such is the case with a certain power hour taking place tomorrow, at the Sav-Art Gallery in the lovely Westwood neighborhood just off of the Plaza. It’s called the NO Boys Girls OnlY Night.
Yeah, that’s O.B.G.Y.N.
The idea is exactly what the acronym implies – minus a pelvic exam. “The O.B.G.Y.N. part came before words were actually attached to it,” explains Cami Savage, proprietor of Sav-Art Gallery, a realtor and a city councilwoman in Westwood. “And I’ve gotten great feedback about it. I sent out about 1,800 e-mails that said, ‘If you’re a man, stop reading this.’ And from the R.S.V.P.’s I’ve gotten back, I expect around 150 women to attend. It’s a laid-back opportunity to see some great art and hang out with all kinds of women.”
Sure, the whole O.B.G.Y.N. bit doesn’t make you think Ya-Ya Sisterhood or hummus dip. But it’s certainly a title that draws attention.
Who knows? Maybe some manly-man out there will be sending out future invitations to P.R.O.S.T.A.T.E. – and come up with your own acronym. – Lorna Perry
