Gun Show vs. Gun Violence

AWKWARD!

There's a curious pairing of billboards on the east side of Wornall between 84th and 85th streets. The first is one of those familiar neon-colored signs advertising an upcoming gun show. But right next to it is a PSA from Project Safe Neighborhoods against gun violence.

I called CBS Outdoor to ask if the positioning of the billboards was on purpose. A woman named Kitty told me, "I believe it's a coincidence — I'm going to check it out."

As for Project Safe Neighborhoods, the person in charge of the Midwestern division PSA department is out of the office until April 21. When she gets back, I hope someone tells her that her Wornall and 85th Street billboard gave them more bang for their buck. Har.

"Um, sure. Just like in every other western country with stricter gun control laws than ours."

Actually, compare those countries with the areas in the U.S. that allow concealed carry...you might be surprised by the results. The reason America's overall crime rate is higher is due to the astronomical crime rate of urban areas--the same areas that also have the highest restrictions on gun rights.

Stick with the short insults though instead of thinking for yourself. It suits you.

"Gun violence always increases when the government restricts firearms ownership..."

Um, sure. Just like in every other western country with stricter gun control laws than ours.

Keep drinking your kool-aid.

Promoting gun ownership and a reduction in gun violence are not mutually exclusive of one another. Gun violence always increases when the government restricts firearms ownership, as the law abiding are stripped of their right to defend themselves against the law breakers.

What's really strange is how that the police provided wallet-size mugshot prints for that woman's locket.
