Bike Week Gets Fixed

By now you've surely heard that Kansas City is in the midst of Bike Week, with cycling advocates organizing a mind-boggling number of events to get you to get out of the car and onto a bicycle.

But, if you're not a regular cyclist, you may not know the latest trend on two wheels: fixed-gear bicycles. These bikes don't have all those fancy shifters and they don't have brakes either, but in many urban centers they're starting to take on cult status.

Last night, Volker Bicycles held a fixed-gear workshop that gave newbies an opportunity to check out the single-speed bikes and fixed-gear riders a chance to test their skills in a Track Stand and Skidding Competition.
