On Sunday, I was hanging out at the library when I saw these three ladies sitting around a computer. Dorothy Simpson (left) was with her mother, Mosetta Harris (middle) and her daughter, Dreanna Simpson. They were looking up historical information about KC for a family reunion in August. They’ve got 500 people from all 50 states coming to town, so they wanted to be able to tell them more about KC.
Dorothy and Dreanna’s brightly-colored outfits initially caught my eye. I really like how bright and summery they look. They said they didn’t plan on wearing the same colors, either. Dreanna, a 19-year-old student and sales assistant, got her dress from Simply Fashion, a store at the Landing Shopping Center. She described her looks as “bohemian chic.” Both she and Dorothy, a nurse, say that they got their style sense from 73-year-old Mosetta, a retired manager for Exxon. “She’s always been a fashion person,” Dorothy said.
Indeed, Mosetta was looking fantastic. Check out her cool gold-rimmed glasses, as well as her beaded ankle bracelet, which goes with her delicate gold-toned slippers. I really love her hat; I think more women (including myself) should wear them. I asked if she usually wore hats.
“I’m a hat and shoe lady,” she said.
“She has over 100 hats and 2000 shoes,” Dreanna added. (I think she was kidding about the shoes?)
“She’s the black Imelda Marcos,” Dorothy said.
“Oh, stop it,” Mosetta replied, good-naturedly.
“You should have your own camera,” Dorothy teased her mother.
“You better leave me alone,” Mosetta said.
Love them. Can I come to your family reunion? I promise I’ll even wear a hat.
