During my lunch break on Thursday, I stopped at the CVS at 39th and Main for some nail polish. I couldn’t find the color I wanted (silver), and I was dejectedly heading out to my car when I saw Alesia Garner. Her dress is really cute – love the colorful ruffles at the hem -- and I think she looks fantastic.
Alesia got her dress at Rainbow, a store at Linwood and Prospect. “I love fashion, love to put pieces together,” she said. She had been looking for a tube-style dress for a while when she spotted this one in the Rainbow window. The yellow necklace, which is made of plastic-looking beads, is from the same store. The 29-year-old added the bolero-style jacket to make her outfit more work-appropriate (she’s a manager with the Housing Authority).
She was a little nervous about being interviewed. “I like to look different; I don’t dress like everyone else,” she said. She describes her style as unique. “I’m a plus-size girl, and a lot of girls my size don’t dress like I do. I can do short, long … I can wear anything a small girl can.” I asked if she tried to emphasize certain areas with her clothes. “I like to accentuate my hips. It’s my best asset, I guess,” she said. Hey, that's what style is all about -- highlighting your best assets and wearing stuff that fits your body type. And Alesia does this well.
