Misti Mathis is a girl after my own heart. When I asked her about her style, she said, “Honestly? Comfortable and cheap.”
I ran into Misti at the WearHaus fashion market event at the Velvet Dog on a Thursday night. I really like the way she mixes patterns. Her plaid jacket, which she got from a Forever 21 clearance rack, is embroidered with roses and leaves. Underneath it, she threw on a long, black-and-white striped shirt and tights. I especially love her bright turquoise scarf, which adds a splash of color.
How cool are her boots? She bought them at Macy’s. I’ve been mildly obsessed with the flat gray boot ever since Serena van der Woodsen wore an over-the-knee pair last year on Gossip Girl. I think I might have to go on a gray boot hunt for this fall.
The 23-year-old is a stylist with HumaNature Salon. She said Edie Sedgwick is a huge inspiration, especially for her tights. “I like to combine texture and fabrics – retro with a modern edge,” she said. Her tip for looking so fantastically chic? “Accessorize. If you take a plain outfit, it makes it really different with great accessories.”
Here's a shot of Misti and her boyfriend Patrick. She's showing off his rat tail. The salon had a table at WearHaus, and he let one of the stylists practice her hair extension skills.
“She amazes me,” he said about Misti. “It literally took her 10 minutes (to put her outfit together). She tells me to hurry up.”
