This photo, taken Wednesday at around 10:30 a.m., confirms the rumors that Kansas City Mayor Mark Funkhouser now conducts a significant amount of city business at home. Last month, the City Council passed an ordinance that more or less banished his wife and primary adviser, Gloria Squitiro, from City Hall.
The cars were photographed outside the mayor's Brookside home. They belong to Kendrick Blackwood, Funkhouser's chief of staff, and Joe Miller, his communications director.
"The mayor has always had meetings at his house since he was elected," Blackwood told me this afternoon. However, Blackwood also indicated that the mayor was working from home more now than he did in the past.
Blackwood repeated Funkhouser's assertion that the ordinance restricting family members from volunteering at City Hall would make it more difficult for the mayor to do his job. Asked how much more time the mayor is spending at home, Blackwood said, "I couldn't quantify it."
Blackwood confirmed that Wednesday-afternoon staff meetings now take place at Funkhouser's residence.

Wouldn't catch me at any of those "home meetings". There's a reason for the security measures at city hall.
Kansas City has zoning restrictions but I doubt he has to follow those like he didn't have to follow the law that says you have to have a liguor card to serve drinks, or a list of others. He must be above the law. I find it hard to believe in this day and age our city will just sit by and watch the mayor thumb his nose at everyone without question. I think all city employees should just go home when they feel like it.....hey cops don't worry about protecting the streets just head on home.....and you water department guys it's getting colder out so why don't you go on home you can come in when it's warmer or just whenever........I'm sure the mayor would have a fit if firemen, cops, and public service workers didn't come to work. I'm sure no other city of our size would tolerate this.....I don't think they would have elected him either though....I blame me. On a positive note, I just want to say what a great city council we have moving on and getting business done with or without the support of this dub.
Shouldn't you point out that Joe Miller used to work at your paper?
No one could make this up... he remains a totally clueless infant and laughingstock.
Doesn't Kansas City have restrictions on conducting a business from a home in an area zoned residential? Is what Mayor Funking doing comply with ordinance? I doubt I could run a beauty shop out of my home. Why should the mayor be able to run the city from his?
