Depressing weekend for Kansas City sports fans, and I'm not talking about another Chiefs loss. The Columbus Crew ended the Kansas City Wizards' season Saturday. Down the Byline looks at the season finale and it was, in a word, "disappointing."
Midtown Miscreant guides us through Bannister Mall blight. My favorite Miscreant blogger finds a whole bunch of free tires. Score!
JoCoSOB takes a break from bashing Obama to rip the media and politicians for only caring about homeless people for two months and in election years. The SOB also smacks the organizers of a charity benefit because "These parties are just ways for KCMO's elite to demonstrate to their friend that they care."
Stiffed freelance writers are rising up against Janice Ellis, reports Bottomline Communications. Seven freelancers complain on WritersWeekly that Ellis' RiseUp magazine never paid them.
Finally, Erin gives us the latest clumsy installment of her love story. Dating rules be damned.

I, too, am among those stiffed by RiseUp. I have written three stories for them. I was paid for two after many, many phone calls and emails (a good number of which were not answered at first). I was always told one excuse or another and assured that payment was on its way and that I was highly valued. I am still owed $2K for a story submitted last summer. I got the usual run around and then a couple emails that looked like form letters talking about trying to secure financing and an offer to pay interest on back payments. Since then I have heard nothing and while the phone appears to still be connected no one answers. I am pretty pissed -- not only for the money I am out which is significant to me -- but also because I think I have been misled all along. Does ANYONE know what is going on?
