KCTV Channel 5 got a big scoop Monday, IDing the woman in this surveillance photo taken near the site where Renee Pernice's cell phone was found. Police released the photo of the woman and the truck, hoping for more tips in the disappearance of Pernice, who has been missing since January 2.

Police already knew the woman's name, but they weren't telling. KCTV5's intrepid reporters were undaunted. "Monday, KCTV5 spoke to

the mother of Kelli A. Sharp, a 38-year-old teacher at John F. Kennedy

Elementary School in Kansas City, Kan., and she said her daughter was

the woman in the image police released."

Sharp's

mother also said her daughter had hired a lawyer, who wouldn't talk to

KCTV5. But KCTV5 did get a parent of a JFK student to also ID Sharp.

The police were still tight-lipped when asked to confirm Sharp's

identity. You know, ongoing investigation.

Blogger and Kansas City Kansan reporter Nick Sloan ended up loosely connected to the Sharp story after KCTV5 flashed an October 2007 Kansan featuring Sharp that was written by Sloan. He writes on his blog that KCTV5 staked out the school all day Monday.

"Did these cameras really have to be at this school all afternoon and make a scene?" Sloan asks. "I imagine parents, district

administrators, students and teachers are probably having a worse night

of sleep because of this report and methods used to obtain it. Heck, I

can't sleep now."

Sharp's lawyer did talk to Fox 4, telling the station that his client isn't a suspect.
