Killa City: Parents of dead baby were IHOP members

Over the weekend, I read the Kansas City Star story about the parents of Jeremiah Candler, the 4-month-old baby who starved to death in mid-November. The Jackson County Medical Examiner ruled the baby's death a homicide, and the baby's parents, Nick and Rebecca Candler (pictured), were charged with their son's death. But I was struck by the Star's mention of the couple's "blog." I found it, but it's more Web site than blog. The Candlers' call it PrayerCovering.org and say the site is their "Official Ministry Site." Under the heading "Our Love Story," the Candlers tell how they fell in love while protesting at an abortion clinic and became interns and devout members of the International House of Prayer.

"While standing in front of one of the abortion clinics Rebecca was

trying to pray for babies, and kept getting interrupted with thoughts

about marrying Nick," the site says.

The couple met up again in Indianapolis, where "Nick built up the confidence to call and ask her [Rebecca] to attend a kick-off meeting for 24-7 prayer at his church." Aww. A romantic.

"The next night Nick was trembling inside when he asked her to go out and pray over a certain part of Indianapolis called Broad Ripple."

This is starting to sound dirty.

"At the end of the night he took Rebecca to her apartment."

Uh, oh -- he asked her to marry him. They were married on January 7, 2006. Almost two years later, their baby starved to death.

Yesterday, the Candlers plead not guilty to the murder of their child.

Dude I was part of IHOP leadership for 6 years and no there are a lot of things that are not forced but are implied to have to fit in and be a part of this group. The teachings are thorted and not based on biblical truth. I thank God for showing me truth from His word when I started to question the teacbings vs what the bible states. They take the bible and offer their own interpertation. Young children getting married to have sex and yes babies...super young unheard of young. If ihop closed tomoorrow these people would have no social skills or work experience or even educations to help them survive. Hundred of people metabolisms have been screwed because of the amount of fasting that expected but you are right not forced including my own that major tests needed to be done of why I was so sick. These kids are brain washed deal with them rent to them interact with them and you will see what I was so blind to for over 6years. My prayer is that the truth will prevail and these kids and there thousands of followers will walk in Gods truth not Bickles interpertaion of truths. And the leaders teachers??? Can we all say money, yep its become a business people....millions of dollars coming in monthly and yearly ask me how I know??? I saw the figures coming in from partners and weekend collections on a slow Sunday morning service 67K one service. Dude I was in there I was part of it all. I am free now thank God. Grandview and people beware and be cautious there is more to this group than a church.

Does anyone know what has happened with this case? I cannot find any info on Rebecca. I was watching the status on case.net. I see Nick has a jury trial scheduled now 04/04/11 but Rebecca's case is not on there anymore.

I'm wondering how many of you people who are criticizing IHOP as a "cult" have actually been there and have encountered God...

Jesus says anger is as murder. Mike Bickle nor IHOP are responsible for this tragedy.

Just as David and other committed "sin" we are called to pray, correct, rebuke, IN LOVE.

Jeremiah Candler Update
May 8, 2010

Mike Bickle, IHOP and Christian Kabbalah

Nick and Rebecca Candler are young IHOP missionaries who are caught up in a very large and very deadly occult hybrid religious movement known as the New Order of the Latter Rain (NOLR). Apostate "Super Apostle" Prof. C. Peter Wagner (Fuller Theological) re-packaged the NOLR in the 80's into the New Apostolic Reformation (NAR). The NOLR/NAR was formed from implementing 17th-century hybrid Christian Kabbalist doctrines. The main theme that Bickle, IHOP and the rest of the NOLR/NAR is that "God is restoring the office of apostles and prophets." This doctrine can be traced directly to the belief that the souls of the original apostles and prophets will reincarnate into their genetic descendants in the 20th century. The Jewish Kabbalist doctrine of "Gilgul" (reincarnation) is not compatible with orthodox Christianity. Even Bickle's "Harp and Bowl" used in IHOP is a twisted interpretation used to brainwash 10s of 1000s of youth each year. IHOP members are coerced into fasting, and prayer repetitions to force a revival such as NOLR Bentley and the Lakeland Revival disaster last year and the West Coast Revival they are cooking up this year using magical incantations, divination, and sorcery.

Jeremiah Candler is only one of many NOLR victims. Maranatha Campus Ministries (now Every Nations) and numerous other NOLR cults are stealing the souls, finances, and sacred honor of millions of American, Canadian, and European youth. The NOLR/NAR hybrid religion is a very deadly cult and you can only expect to see more tragedies like Jeremiah Candler in the near future.

WAKE UP NOW!!!

Come on everyone ,when are you going to stop blaming I HOP for the mistakes of others ,and start thanking God for I HOP and the positive things that have happened in peoples lives.I HOP's prayer room is an awesome place to meet God and allow Him to meet you where you are. You might say that God can meet you anywhere but the problem is, you are not taking the time to do so. If you were, you wouldn't be trashing the name or reputation of I HOP.

I also went to ISU with Nick and he was a close friend of mine until his senior year when I transferred schools. It is very hard for me to picture him doing this as this was not in his character whatsoever when I knew him. It's a sad situation for everyone involved. Has there been any updates on Rebecca?

Correction: should have said,

There's no way for police to LINK IHOP because it was simply a choice that the mom and dad made in starving that child.

IHOP broke up my family.

No, they don't force their people to fast but Mike Bickle has all the IHOPians believing that he is an "apostle".
He also teaches BIG TIME on transcendental meditation but he calls it a Christian name - Contemplative prayer.
But it's the same thing - no difference at all.
So yeah, some ex-IHOP people might have glowing things to say about it but it isn't good. Judging by its "fruit", it is in fact a cult.

A baby's dead. 10 bucks says IHOP doesn't get implicated in the death. There's no way for police to like IHOP because it was simply a choice that the mom and dad made in starving that child. Sad, very sad.

This whole thing is messed up.....I was a good friend of Nick's for many years....we went to high school and ISU together....I personally can't believe what happened.....I personally don't agree with the things hes done....the way hes changed over the years is like he had gone into a cult or something.....hes always been religious.....but not to the extint that is now....he actually met his wife while on a mission down south......the wierd thing is was before he left he claimed god had spoken to him in a dream and that he would find the one he would marry on this mission.....a couple of weeks later he called me and my cousin to tell us he was engaged.......after they were married he called one time saying his wife had forgotten who he was.........shes a schizto (pardon the spelling).....my point is this family was not right from the beginning....he left his kid in the care of his schitzo wife while at work and out of town.....and somehow claims never saw any type of abuse through starving.....I told him it didn't matter....he's as responsible for taking care of his child as his wife was.....he'll do time, thats for sure.....meanwhile his wife will sit in a mental institute....knowing nick most of my life....in the past something like this would have never happened......now im not blaming religion... but when he changed his life turned into a cult .....devoting everything to god....and forgetting about what was more important to him,,,,,,,his family his kids.....I cant forgive him for what hes done nor will I pity him.....he did this to him self and will ultimately pay in the end.......

Where does IHOP get all the money? How can such a new organization afford to have so much property and to build a new cult center? I don't think all IHOPians are bad, but I do think most are brainwashed and that they live to serve IHOP, the organization does not exist to serve them.

Oh, second anonymous guy, dont fret. Justo K is simply trying to get a rise outta people and first anonymous guy has convinced himself that it takes a village or some other whacko shit that folks without kids or common sense commonly spew.

Tis best if we just sit back and let Justo K do his job of mass publishing Lacey-approved commentary, and hope that first anonymous guy one day gets a girlfriend and that sniffing all that paint didnt sterilize him.

How many of you have actually been to IHOP? I have. I'm only 22, but I was there when it first began. I am no longer a part of IHOP, my life took me in a different direction. No fast is forced, and there are countless people who DO NOT participate in them. I never did. Any time you have a large gathering of people you WILL ALWAYS find some psychos, and that includes church. There may be 1000 people there who are good, and only 20 who aren't. You're not gonna hear about the thousand, only the 20 nut jobs. I've seen my share of BOTH there, and although there are people there who give Christianity a bad name MOST of the people there are good people. I must say here that I personally don't like IHOP, so my saying this is NOT out of a sense of "loyalty" but instead for the sake of the truth. I've been there, I've been a major part of that place, and I know that most of those people are good. And for those of you who want to talk crap, give me one example of a large gathering of people (church, school, concerts, whatever) that doesn't draw at least a few bad people. What that couple did was horrible, but it in no way can reflect the rest of the IHOP people. A different country would read this and say, those Americans, look at how cruel they are, when it's NOT all americans, just a percentage. That's not very fair, is it?

I hope the police are also investigating IHOP - International House of Prayer - and not JUST THE PARENTS because if the parents are IHOP members and their baby dies, how many more potential vicim/babies are there?? since I'm sure the Candlers were not the only people there with infant children.
IHOP has their people fast regularly. That's fine if you're an adult. That's child abuse if done to a baby/child. And if that baby dies, that's murder. IHOP's leader(s) should have to own up to what they've caused.

Now now, Justin works VERY hard to follow the crowd and focus his attacks on Christians and Republicans. He has to ignore thousands and thousands of real issues to find these little nuggets to feed to the echo chamber in the name of journalism and blog-justice. His capability to deliver a black eye to anything is as questionable as the future of the media he is a part of, so dont allow Justo K to get to you. Rather, pray that he becomes more than Just OK and that he finds peace before that head lemming leads him off the cliff.
