Donovan: Lokeman DUI arrest is news to us

Kansas City Star reader representative Derek Donovan says no one in the newsroom at 18th and Grand knew that former columnist Rhonda Chriss Lokeman had been arrested for drunken driving.

"It was news to me," Donovan wrote. "And as I discovered when I asked editors in the newsroom, nobody there knew about it there either, from the police/justice assistant city editor on up to editor and vice president Mike Fannin."

Donovan explained that Star reporters don't fish through daily records of traffic violations and arrests. "Most media don't find out about traffic stops and arrests of notable people unless some tips them off," Donovan wrote.

I feel for Derek and everyone at the Star who had to touch the Lokeman story. Especially knowing she's the boss man's wife.

Rhonda is a good person and her career should be destoyed behind a simple mustake. Millions of people everyday drive drunk everyday only a small percentage get caught unless they have a bad accident. If there was no one hurt it should not have ben a big issue. Our family carry a strong name and have this open to the public it is very unneccesary. How many other employees along with the top head executives who drink and drive that the company is not aware of, why not give random drug and alcohol test to make sure no is ruining the company name by drinking and driving.Everybody deserve a chance and should have to feel ashamed or be under pressure for a mistake.I know it to be true that there other people inside that company drink and drive everyday. So she should be held accountable for a mistake when others inside the company has done the same and the they are keeping it hidden from the public. Meaning they should be held accountable for their actions as well.

Lokeman needs to apologize to all; a recent column:

Original: "Thirteen years ago, I entered public service to make a positive difference in the lives of others.''

Corrected: My client asked me to come to Washington to hide his mistakes from the nation, like we did in that DUI business in Texas.

Donovan has the integrity of a snake (with apologies to snakes). Thanks to the Pitch for breaking this story. Once again it has demonstrated its superiority over The Star. Rhonda was probably the best editorial writer at The Star and had to crap can her career to promote his. One can't help but wonder if her last column being written 12/28 wasn't a prelude to this event.

It appears that the Star has not yet responded publicly on its website about this. Hmmm! Could it be that she is the Publisher's wife? Lucky that even the media elite get the same treatment we do... oops! and Not!

I hope two things:

1) the Star and the Zman come clean
2) and Ms Lokeman comes out of this okay
