Even before Scott Pioli was named the new Chiefs GM, there were rumors that any management job he took in the NFL would include a coaching job for his old friend and University of Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz. We think Ferentz is a great coach, and the Chiefs would be lucky to have him, but based on his latest press conference it doesn't seem likely.
Asked about the Chiefs rumors, Ferentz responded that unless he was "hit by a truck," he'd be around for his next press conference in March. Normally when questioned about NFL jobs -- and he often is -- Ferentz casually dismisses the idea. Talking about being flattened by a semi is about as bold as he gets. So, either he really hates the idea of coaching the Chiefs, or he's just sick of being asked.
Either way, who could blame him.
