In my story this week, I mistakenly reported that Leonard Peltier, the Native American activist convicted of killing two FBI agents in 1975, is imprisoned at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth. I was corrected by volunteers with KOLA, described on their Web site as "a grassroots human rights organization that was founded in September 1987 on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation, South Dakota."
Though I feel bad about the mistake, KOLA folks tell me it's a common error. "Lately, it has been rather difficult to keep up with where the BOP [Board of Prisons] is sending Leonard," says Els Herten with KOLA's Belgium office.
A Peltier chronology is accessible on KOLA's site here, as are a forum and information on ways to get involved with the activists who'd like to see Peltier freed.
Today, KOLA is encouraging Peltier supporters to "crash the White House opinion line for Leonard Peltier" by calling 202-456-1111.

Writing lots of letters and getting people to know these things plus to pray for him---Sending another letter off tonight to Pres Obama---heard that some people in the Crow nation had Adopted him just before the Inauguration, I think--maybe he has a real interrst in the indian people and will do something---even, like Leonard P says, house arrest back at Turtle Mountain. I'm askig for a complete Pardon or to commute his sentence and set him free.

The FBI gave armour piercing bullets to the thugs who ran Pine Ridge like a fiefdom. Those bullets killed women and children.
Leonard had a deer rifle and was convicted of murder on that alone.
While he may not have been a choir boy, he certainly was railroaded by the government.
Pine Ridge, Ruby Ridge, Waco, the firefighter deaths in KC, your FBI at work.
The agency was built on a lie which continues unabated today.
