Missouri state Sen. Jolie Justus is taking on HPV. This morning, Justus will introduce Senate Bill 104, which would require public schools to provide information on the HPV vaccine to parents of girls entering the sixth grade and would also pay for immunizing girls whose families cannot afford the vaccine, to the Senate's health committee.

Left untreated, HPV can cause cervical cancer.

Justus made the announcement on her blog, Fresh Meat.
It's the third time Justus has pushed the bill, which has escaped the Senate but always stalls in the House.

"I'm hoping that an early

committee hearing, coupled with a change in House leadership, will help

the bill's chances this year," Justus wrote.

Let's hope Justus succeeds.

FYI- There is a new book on the HPV Vaccine Controversy: Sex, Cancer, God and Politics authored by Shobha S. Krishnan, M.D from Barnard College, Columbia University, New York. It is a book for public education and is written without the influence of any pharmaceutical companies or special interest group.
