Michelle Obama is only one of Leslie Brown's muses. Brown's notebook includes sketches of Jackie Robinson, Oprah and Morgan Freeman. But the Michelle Obama sketch landed Brown on Mrs. O, a blog devoted the fashions of the First Lady.
The site goes into excruciating detail about Brown's process and notes that the language arts teacher from Olathe doesn't sell his work -- no messy copyright fights a la Shepard Fairey (Stay Red Kansas noted this weekend that Barack Obama's iconic contemplative look on the "Hope" poster came while listening to a speech by Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback about Darfur). And Brown apparently isn't finished with Michelle Obama. He wants to sketch a version of this Annie Leibovitz shot that was featured in Vogue.
Thanks to my friend Jen Chen for passing for the tip.
