In this recent feature from our sister paper, Broward-Palm Beach New Times, the writer follows around some hometown blood-drinkers and watches a guy in his early 20s cut the inner thigh of his girlfriend and lap up the plasma.
Reading this also taught us that the Midwest's "nice and polite" stereotype runs across all groups. While the vampires we talked with seemed like decent folks, even going so far as to worry about the kids who think their lifestyle is cool, at least one Florida vamp openly describes himself as a "sexual opportunist." Some are perfectly normal people outside of their appetites, but there's still a lot of discussion about writhing around naked in blood. Kansas City's drinkers seem innocent by comparison.
