Picketing AIG won't help, but being part of an angry mob would feel good

As I'm sure you've all heard by now, AIG is using an estimated $165 million of its government bailout money to hand out bonuses to the assholes who helped hobble the economy. You have to retain talent, right? I've been thinking and I would like it if you all would consider, just for a second, meeting me outside their offices. I'll explain my reasoning after the jump.

I know Obama says he's pissed, and he's going to claw the cash back somehow. You've also got dicks saying the contracts have to be honored because we're a nation of laws and blah blah blah. As long as you're not working on the line as an auto-factory workers, in which case your employment agreements don't mean anything. But I digress. Even if Obama makes a lot of noise, most of that taxpayer money is probably gone. Legally, no one's going to do much.

I started thinking about all the protests we have. We've got people on the Plaza asking you to honk your horn if you're sick of fighting in the Middle East. The touring company of Cats appears outside a clothing store to tell you not to wear fur. Sometimes I think these things are a little silly, but I appreciate the sentiment.

And if we can terrorize some poor bastard working at the Armani Exchange, why can't we get some righteously pissed people outside the local AIG office? The business certainly doesn't seem afraid of any government retribution, cops aren't going to handcuff them in the parking lot, and they need to feel some of the same terror everyone else who wonders whether they're going to lose their job feels.

I'm not advocating violence. This should be peaceful. Maybe we just ask them some questions as they go in and out of their building. Like, "When you close your eyes, do you see hell?" Maybe present them with a gift basket with your deceased grandmother's wedding ring and some other personal stuff because they've been working so hard for us all and really need it. Simple things.

AIG has an office at 7007 College Boulevard in Leawood, by the way.

I would call the local AIG office to ask how the people there are doing, but they'd probably just tell me they're angry at AIG and scared (of mobs, for one thing), too. It's true that their office is likely made up more of schlubs than top-flight executives, but we have to start somewhere. So, AIG people out south, if you're reading this, come outside with us and protest your company. We won't tell.

For the record, I'm grateful we get both liberals and conservatives in the comments on a lot of these posts, and no matter what side you're on, you should have a reason to come. If you're liberal, show some rage at what these fat goat suckers have done with your hard-earned cash. If you're conservative and you think the stimulus was dumb to begin with, come out and tell them you're not happy that they accepted this money, and they should allow the free market to work and collapse in on themselves like a dying star.

So what I hope is that in this case, you use the comments section to agree on a day and time, and we all show up ready to rock. If you do, I promise I'll be there, too, and I'll cover it. I'd recommend tomorrow, while St. Patrick's day hangovers are peaking, or Thursday, before the outrage ends. Hell, even if you guys agree on a time and don't actually show up, can you imagine them inside their offices like the losing side hunkered down in the bunker for the last days of a war ... waiting to see if the taxpayers they just robbed are going to flood their parking lot with fury and vengeance. That alone is worth setting a date.

Why is Building a Mosque at Ground Zero really being encouraged to happen? I never heard anything at all so obviously preposterous in all my life. If this really reaches fact, It will probably be the scariest thing of all time. vera

Well written. I'll be there tomorrow at 9:00. I was recently laid off so I can't afford much to help buy supplies to make signs, but I'll wave them if we can scrape together enough cash to get them made. I'm one of many victims of the greed of the criminally wealthy and politically powerful who went to bed together and spawned this meltdown.

Unchecked greed, some say, can be the source of progress, and aggression is important for success BUT when corporations lose sight of the greater good of humanity and focus only on the bottom line, this type of suffering is what ensues and my resentment for those in power, both politically and capitalistically has never been higher.

At the same time I'm hopeful. I think that our current president is the most empathetic to my piss-poor condition of any in my lifetime.
